"Mitch Harrison is a Pro. We had action from the moment my fly hit the water. He knows his home rivers, where the fish are hiding, and what they like to eat. We caught many fish, Rainbows, Browns, and native Brookies. My full day of fishing with Mitch was extremely successful and comfortable. His demeanor is warm and disarming. He loves his work and knows how to make his client feel relaxed. His style of coaching comes from his keen observation. He does not over teach. Yet, he was very attentive to my needs. He is focused on catching fish but seems to always be in the background. Mitch is understated but not afraid to guide. Mitch Harrison is an outstanding fishing guide and one hell of a nice fishing companion. What a joy to fish on a beautiful rivers, in solitude, no other anglers, with a top-shelf guide. Thanks Mitch for sharing your river and expertise with me."
I had a terrific time fishing with Mitch Harrison of Cold River Guide Service. He knew every detail of rivers we fished, where to find fish, when they would be there and what they were eating. Mitch’s access to stretches of private water was also great and an unexpected bonus. As a relative beginner to fly fishing I particularly appreciated Mitch’s approach to instruction and guiding. It is understated with a very useful tip here and there, so much better than other experiences I have had elsewhere where you feel like the trip is more about technique than catching fish. The result of this approach is that we caught fish, I learned a lot and had a great time on the river with a fishing buddy even though we first met the morning of our trip. I also cant say enough about the scenery and solitude of the Cold River, just experiencing that was worth the day. I would highly recommend Mitch to anyone considering a fly fishing trip and look forward to fishing with him again soon.
I had a great day on the Cold and Connecticut rivers! Mitch is a pro! With the lack of rain, the conditions were very challenging but he was still able to put me on some fish. We saw some huge rainbows in the cold river that turned on the flies he selected but they were just not biting. We moved to another section of the river where I was able to hook up a few times (Or missed hooking up because I was asleep at the wheel!) and finally landed a beautiful Smallmouth Bass! Mitch will put you on the fish... The rest is up to you!
"If you want to know where to find and catch fish in the Connecticut River Valley then Mitch is your man. He is patient and easy to understand. We had a great time fishing with him twice!
Many thanks for the pics and a fantastic day on the water. Your expert instruction and patience were very much appreciated — we had fun and learned a lot in the process. I’ll be in touch on future trips. Thanks again!
"Having only dreamed of actually catching a trout with a fly rod, I decided to try Tenkara as I enjoy backpacking and mountain streams. Our day started early, Mitch had already placed a vehicle up the river. My goals were to primarily learn about casting, reading a river and deciding on flies; if I actually caught something it would be a bonus. Mitch made quick work of teaching me how to cast with a tenkara rod, choice of flies depending on season and section of the river. And within the first twenty minutes-I had a beautiful rainbow trout on the end of the line. Not to mention the other rainbow and brown trout caught a little later. Mitch exceeded my expectations for the day and left me with the knowledge to choose the right equipment, how to use it, and to find where the fish are "holed up" in a river. Thanks for a great day!"
"Mitch Harrison is a terrific guide. We fished a full day and were into fish all day. I at least raised a fish in every spot Mitch took me to. Mitch was always there to change a fly if needed or with a tip or different approach, but never got in the way. He certainly knows the river and where the fish are. We caught brookies, rainbows and brown trout during the course of the day. Mitch is also a great person to spend the day with. He has a good stream side manner as it were. I had a great time fishing with him and will certainly be coming back for another trip next spring."
"I fished the Cold River with Mitch recently and had a great day. I fished the river with Mitch last year and we caught lots of fish and I learned a lot in the process. This year was bright and sunny. A wonderful day but challenging for the fly fisherman. The day started off very slowly but Mitch worked hard and kept at it, frequently changing technigues and trying multiple spots on the river. Well, it paid off. By late morning we were into fish and had great action all afternoon.
I’ll chalk this one up to a guide with both perseverance a a lot of know how. I’m already looking forward to fishing with Mitch next year.”
"ON A COOL JULY MORNING WITH LIGHTLY OVERCAST SKIES MITCH PICKED US UP AT OUR COTTAGE AT THE INN AT THE WALPOLE VALLEY FARMS AND TOOK US STRAIGHT TO WORK ON HIS BEST STRETCH OF THE COLD RIVER. AFTER A BRIEF BUT CONCISE INTRO TO THE WATERS, WE USED HIS FAVORITE SELF-TIED FLIES, WORKING THE HOLDING SPOTS BEHIND ROCKS AND IN RIFFLES OF THE FIRST 30 YARDS OF THE RIVER. . .ON THE 3RD RETRIEVE A BIG RAINBOW TOOK THE MARABOU MUDDLER AND RAN FOR THE SWIFT PART OF THE CURRENT. WITH MITCH'S ADVICE AN 18-INCH BEAUTY WAS SUCCESSFULLY LANDED..."

"For a first time fly fisher I did not know what to expect. My father-in- law arranged the outing earlier in the week and the night before I watched a few tutorials online. The tutorials gave me a glimpse of what to expect. Mitch's expertise paved the way for a beginner to have one catch and have two others on but lost. The thrill of the fish grabbing was amazing. Mitch told me I was a fast learner but I think he was being nice. I highly recommend Mitch as a guide. Even if you do not catch you will not be disappointed."
"Thank you! Our group really enjoyed you and your bird walk. I will certainly be giving you a call in the future!"
